PORTFOLIO

Lee Clow

I’ve seen more people come into the business with a great education. Then they lose touch with what their career in advertising is supposed to be about. Pretty soon, people are seduced by client guys. They begin to make small concessions. You become the assistant creative director’s favorite guy–you get a raise, get married, buy a house. Now you get to rein in the creative guys in your group. Pretty soon, you become creative director. Big house, two kids, but now your job is to keep accounts running smoothly. New management comes in and wants more creative work. They get a new creative director. New blood. Now this guy has to find a job with this lousy portfolio. His Art Center degree doesn’t mean anything. People don’t burn out–they sell out. Stay true to what’s in your book!
